Thanks to a programme change earlier in the year, we welcomed Andrew Brammer to Norwich Writers' Circle tonight.
The award-winning storyteller gave us an entertaining evening on Writing Humour Based On Personal Experiences. The night included Andrew giving us a taste of his tall tales, which feature various characters growing up in 1970s Dunstable. We were then informed of the techniques Andrew uses in bringing his stories to life. These techniques included his use of language, with the emphasis of making things immediately clear to the listener.
The meeting concluded with an interesting Q&A session with the visiting writer, before we were given the opportunity to buy Andrew's latest CD, Stumpy Sanderson's Scrapbook.
This evening also saw Andrew launch our in-house competition to write a Humorous Article, of between 750 and 1,000 words, for The Colin Sutton Cup.
Our next meeting is in The Pierce Room, and will be the adjudication and prizegiving evening for our Annual Open Poetry Competition. This meeting, which will be hosted by Hilary Mellon - the competition's adjudicator - on 20th April, is one of the most popular events in our yearly programme.
